# cburnett chess pieces

The twelve SVG files in this folder (`wK wQ wR wB wN wP bK bQ bR bB bN bP`) are
the lichess default piece set "cburnett", drawn by Colin M.L. Burnett
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cburnett). They are unmodified copies of
https://github.com/lichess-org/lila/tree/master/public/piece/cburnett
(raw files from `https://raw.githubusercontent.com/lichess-org/lila/master/public/piece/cburnett/<name>.svg`,
retrieved 2026-10-18).

Licence: lila's `COPYING.md` lists `public/piece/cburnett` under GPLv2+.
Burnett's original drawings on Wikimedia Commons are multi-licensed, including
CC BY-SA 3.0. Keep this attribution when you redistribute the site.

The atlas loads them as local files (`pieces/cburnett/<colour><piece>.svg`,
colour `w`/`b`, piece `K Q R B N P`); nothing is fetched from lichess at runtime.
